HOCHGURGL

This year we went to Hochgurgl for our skiing vacation exactly a year after my accident.  The weather didn't cooperate much but we managed to have a few good days and it was simply wonderful.  No accidents!

Our stay started with lots of dark clouds and snow flurries and finally a snow storm.  We were, however, able to drive all the way up to the hotel and not take the Hochgurglbahn.

View of the cluster of hotels on our way up

View towards Obergurgl with the connecting cable car

the authentic mountain restaurant where we had lunch

View from our room. I love ski-in ski-out!

Same view on a better day

Wurmkogel - viewpoint of the area

The bar at the top of Wurmkogel is considered to be one of the best bars at high elevations.

the valley of Obergorgl

with Wildspitze in the center - which at 3774 m. is the highest point of North Tirol

with the view of the Dolomites in the horizon

On the day when the weather was really bad we decided to skip the skiing and drive to Gries and Vent, and from Vent we hiked to Rofenhöfe.

a church on our way to Vent

The beautiful church in Gries

We had lunch in this hotel and went on our hike

on the way to Rofenhofe we passed this mini chapel dedicated to Mary

The hike is about 2 kms and pretty

Needless to say, more chapels

and crosses

and we signed the book too...

We also drove up to Ötztaler Gletscherstrasse which was open up to the toll station.

and here are some other sights

At the end of our vacation on our way back we drove through Fernpass and were lucky enough to go through as the pass was closed an hour or so later.  Then into Germany and onto Freiburg.
