Balestrand

After driving through an unbelievably beautiful landscape, once again the road ended at Hella.

A classic example of how a road suddenly ends in Norway.

We took another ferry and crossed from Hella to Dragsvik.

Late in the afternoon, the ferry was almost empty.

We then drove around another tongue of the fjord and finally ended at Balestrand.  One of the most charming places we have ever stayed.

Kviknes Hotel, where we stayed has two separate wings.  The modern part of the hotel is a concrete structure you would see anywhere else in the world.   But the original timber structure  is simply enchanting.  We stayed in one of their fjord facing suites with a balcony in the old hotel and I could hardly drag myself off  the balcony to do our daily driving and sightseeing.  In addition the staff was friendly and the service  excellent.

The view from our balcony.

This overcast evening was one of the very few dark days we had in Norway - shocking to most people who expected rain and rain....

A room with a view!!

I had to dip my feet in a fjord!
